Facing the obvious, the scrap is unconditionally opened to the city. A new identity is founded forcing two surfaces to melt into the specifical urban patchwork : 1-the expressive topography penetrated with the continuous side-walks and subtile inserted with tolerant structures; 2– the full-up and flat triangle slice, a blast of heterogeneous enthusiasm.

The idea of space "smooth" and "striated", a free interpretation of the concepts of Deleuze and Guattari, constitutes the starting point for the analysis of the urban form of Ermesinde. We found in the area of intervention-study a reality more textured that structured, what we call space "striated". A striated architecture it’s what we are proposing, able to dialog with the texture of the surrounding area near the new building of the market. We believe an "origami" architecture that interprets metaphorically the striated urban space.

A very optimistic approach trying to take advantage through the loathly lack of planning of last 20 years. An invasion of a giant basalt micro cube surface as a common carpet, accommodating different functional islands and pecking out public appropriations. One of those, the town hall building asked “as a new symbol”.
The new area reflects an image of "relaxed formality". Formality because it is almost demolished to leave a vacuum, and receive a building that is intended to set out the institutional weight - Draw up from scratch something comparable to a town square in which the new City Hall is responsible as epicentre of all the remaining processing.
A strategy similar to a new "floor for the city" as a single area (within the intervention), as a result built something that will be seen as a family of objects, supporting us in the election of a single pavement, giving across the main square a uniform appearance, the same matrix.
The very dense city, with many backyards and uncultivated land built over the years, surprised us when we watched over the walls. The shape of the building reflects this situation. It has no front or back, in its own poetry, only sensual curves, forcing the passer, to walk around the facade.

The project begins with a proposal for a modular home, made by a company with history, image and presence in the timber frame building's market. The proposal focuses on the rethink of the typologies' construction catalogues, moving away from their suburban image (apartment T1, T2, T3, T4) and proposing other architectural prototypes capable of producing creative "urban" aggregates. Believing in a constructive premise, not only in aspects that govern the building but also the space conception (pure geometric association), we found that large structures (e.g. a village) may grow by associating small buildings (minimum unit - refuge houses) based on very intelligible rules as the parallel found in the chromosomes, or simple DNA elements that contain genes (regulators) and are also capable of transmitting the rules and produce complex organisms.
We imagine a dynamic catalog presentation: the buyer may combines these two elements XX - XY and test a wide range of possibilities totally controlled by the association rules and fittings without losing the rigor and the design of these two modules.

[I] S(un)warm, introduces a virtual system conceived "naturally" in a state self-organization.
[II] S(un)warm is about the development of a system where all parties are treated as structural monocoque components (four generator components: SU1, SU2, SU3, SU4), morphologically different, but topologically identical.
We developed a script in Microsoft Vbscript (a subset of the programming language Visual Basic), or computer program (or algorithm) that can mimic the rules of self-organization present in "group" intelligence of many organisms, particularly the so-called social insects. This digital tool was then applied in the development of a three-dimensional structure/installation to the public space, based on the previously designed components. The components of the system S(un)warm consist of rigid panels (double-sided aluminum and a polyethylene core) cut on CNC milling machine and folded according to the angles of each variant ( SU1, SU2, SU3, su4). So that not only allows a standard configuration of semi-spherical dome, but also multiple complex geometry configurations. The assemblage system allows the mechanical production of differentiated components and a very fast construction taking in account the overall complexity of the final populations ("swarms"). The final structure combines various components and is intended to be implemented in the public space, Porto-Portugal, creating a space of shelter (canopy). The manipulations of this general structure (using the script that reproduces the swarm behavior) allowed structural resistance and ensure the soundness of the whole.

The future Covilhã Jewish Center is part of an urban lot with roughly 150 m2; topographically inside is very rugged, with a gap of almost 11 meters between the two main streets. This gives a very vertical space appropriation, as indeed is observed in adjacent buildings. Conceptually, it is an extreme power and forcefulness to rely on one of the most solid and richly graphic symbols of Judaism: Star of David. Adopted as leitmotiv to the geometric organization of a program while basic idea, the star (hexagram) is divided into two equilateral triangles; when separated by floors these two triangles sum to a total of six sides (3 for each triangle) which totalize the number of spaces that constitute the main functional program: reception, Jews in the World, Jews in Covilhã, symbols and Jewish celebrations and Jews in the Twentieth Century. At the same time, in mathematics, the hexagram is one of the possible representations of the G2 branch systems. With this assumption as motivation-generating geometry, it was possible to produce a set of patterns that serve as a matrix to the design of the building. The introduction of graphical variations of the same patterns (scale, repetition and crossover) allowed a great freedom in formal exploration of possible architectures. These abstract two-dimensional G2 arrays incorporate the third dimension as the wall will follow the hexagonal intersections.
